English Scholarly Translation
Brahma, Viṣṇu, Rudra, and Maheśvara have become the legs of your couch. Śiva
serves as the clever bed-sheet woven from his own clear radiance. Reddened by the reflected lustre of
your radiances, he milks the wonder of all eyes — like the embodied aesthetic of śṛṅgāra (erotic beauty)
made flesh.
व्याख्या / Traditional Commentary & Notes Classical Exegesis
【Title: The Couch of Gods — Śiva Glowing Red in Her Radiance】 The four great gods — Brahma (creator), Viṣṇu (preserver), Rudra (destroyer), and Maheśvara (lord of lords) — form the four legs of the Goddess's couch. Śiva, placed separately as the pracchada-paṭa (bed-sheet or coverlet), is distinguished from Maheśvara: in some Śrīvidyā classifications, Maheśvara is a cosmic function while Śiva (Sadāśiva) is the supreme being who is nonetheless the Goddess's intimate companion. The word kapaṭa (clever, deceptive) applied to the bed-sheet is charming: Śiva pretends to be a mere piece of cloth while actually being the supreme consciousness resting beneath the Goddess.
