Accessibility Statement
Poorvam and Dhvani Publication are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for scholars, authors, and readers of all abilities, including those using assistive technologies.
1. Conformance Status & Policy
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Poorvam is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Substantially conformant means that some parts of the content may not yet fully adhere to the strictest interpretation across historical archival PDFs, but all modern platform interfaces and newly published issues are tested against these benchmarks.
2. Key Accessibility Features Implemented
Keyboard Navigation
Full navigation through all navigation links, article listings, search engines, and modal dialogs using standard keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, Escape, and Enter keys. Includes an active "Skip to main content" anchor.
Contrast & Dark Theme
High-contrast text tokens designed to exceed WCAG 2.1 AA 4.5:1 minimum ratio for normal text. Instant toggle between Ivory/Paper light mode and deeply legible dark mode.
Fluid Typography Scaling
Article reading tools allow readers to scale typography size dynamically (Default, Large, Extra Large) without breaking layout or horizontal scroll boundaries.
Screen Reader Semantics
Structured semantic HTML5 landmarks (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <article>, <footer>) and descriptive ARIA labels on all interactive controls.
3. Technical Specifications & Compatibility
Accessibility on Poorvam relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and assistive tools installed on your computer:
- HTML5 and semantic markup
- WAI-ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications)
- CSS3 and responsive viewport layouts
- ECMAScript / Vanilla JavaScript (with graceful degradation for core readability)
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used. Tested with NVDA, VoiceOver (macOS / iOS), TalkBack (Android), and JAWS screen readers.
4. Known Limitations & Alternative Formats
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Poorvam, there may be some limitations:
- Historical PDF Archives: Some early pre-2025 monograph scans or archival PDFs may lack full OCR text tags or structured reading order. We provide full HTML abstracts, metadata, and citation exports for these items.
- Complex Mathematical Formulas: While KaTeX / LaTeX formulas are rendered cleanly, complex multi-line matrix expressions are progressively being upgraded to include spoken MathML descriptions.
5. Feedback, Support & Alternative Formats
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Poorvam. If you encounter accessibility barriers on any page or require an alternative format (e.g., high-contrast text, structured Word document, or audio transcription of our lectures):
