Intellectual Statement & Research Focus
Ruth Vanita is a scholar, writer, and translator whose work spans Indian literary history, gender and sexuality studies, and the classical Sanskrit tradition. She is the author and editor of numerous books, including Same-Sex Love in India (co-edited with Saleem Kidwai), Love's Rite, Gender, Sex, and the City, and The Dharma of Justice in the Sanskrit Epics: Debates on Gender, Varna, and Species (Oxford University Press, 2022). She co-founded the feminist magazine Manushi and taught at the University of Montana.
