Abstract

Jewelry in the culture of the Kalmyks of Russia and the Oirat of China has its own characteristics, being unique and unparalleled, which is reflected in the lexicon of the language. This lexical-thematic group is under-researched, which has determined the relevance of the chosen topic. The subject of the study is the analysis of the lexical-semantic features of the nominations for jewelry "siik" (earrings) and "biltsg" (rings) in the Kalmyk language and the Oirat language of China based on folklore and artistic works in lexical and semantic aspects. Special attention is given to the linguocultural aspect. The goal of the research is to determine the nature of the specific semantics of jewelry nominations in related languages that have functioned for centuries in different linguistic environments (Kalmyk in Russia, Oirat in China), to trace the nature of the semantic changes that have occurred in the languages under consideration through the example of two lexical units – the nominations "siik" (earrings) and "biltsg" (rings) – with regard to linguocultural specifics. The article employs elements of descriptive, comparative, contrasting methods, and the method of linguocultural analysis of lexical units. The uniqueness of artistic and folklore texts allows for examining the studied lexemes in their various combinatorial structures, which enables a more comprehensive disclosure and identification of the features of the semantic structure of the word. The conducted lexical-semantic analysis, considering the linguocultural aspects of this lexical group, allows for speaking about a unified system of semantic-grammatical forms and linguocultural justifications for the nomination of jewelry in the language of the Oirat of China and in modern Kalmyk language. In this aspect, these lexemes are being examined for the first time. The identified semantic transformations provide a basis for applying this comprehensive approach to other lexical-semantic groups and tracing the dynamics of the development of verbal and value-oriented features in the linguistic consciousness of what was once a unified ethnic community – the Oirat.
