Abstract
<jats:p>This article analyzes the legal framework, practical significance, existing problems, and prospects for improving the system of state-funded legal aid in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The institution of state-funded legal aid serves as an important guarantee of access to qualified legal assistance for the population, particularly for persons with limited financial resources and those in need of legal protection. The article examines the existing mechanisms of state-funded legal aid on the basis of Article 29 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Law No. 848 “On State-Funded Legal Aid” dated June 16, 2023, as well as Resolution No. 774 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Approval of the Regulation on the Procedure for Engaging Lawyers Providing State-Funded Legal Aid and Remunerating Them” dated November 21, 2024. Based on the results of the study, proposals are developed to further improve the system, including improving the mechanism for remunerating lawyers, strengthening quality control, increasing public awareness, expanding the functionality of the electronic system, and enhancing the effectiveness of state-funded legal aid at the pre-trial stage.</jats:p>
