Abstract
This article examines the psychological factors that contribute to procrastination in students’ independent learning activities and explores mechanisms for reducing and overcoming this phenomenon. Procrastination is interpreted not merely as the postponement of academic tasks but as a complex psychological phenomenon closely associated with students’ motivation, self-regulation, academic responsibility, emotional state, and cognitive processes. The article highlights both internal and external factors that may encourage students to delay academic activities, including fear of failure, perfectionistic tendencies, insufficient self-control, decreased learning motivation, and difficulties in time management. Particular attention is given to psychological mechanisms aimed at preventing and overcoming procrastination. The importance of setting specific goals, self-monitoring, effective time planning, cognitive reappraisal, reflective practices, and gradual organization of academic tasks is substantiated. The article emphasizes that the development of self-regulation skills and systematic psychological prevention of procrastinatory behavior can serve as important conditions for improving the effectiveness of students’ independent learning activities.
