Abstract
<jats:p>This article examines the relocation of the capital of Kazakhstan from Almaty to Astana and its impact on migration processes. Based on historical and statistical data, the political, geopolitical, economic and ethnodemographic factors behind the relocation are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to its influence on internal migration, urbanization and demographic transformation. The study concludes that the transfer of the capital became an important instrument of regional development and migration management in Kazakhstan.</jats:p>
