Abstract

<jats:p>Reservoirs are large hydraulic structures designed to perform functions such as water resources management and their eficient use in various sectors of the economy, as well as the prevention or mitigation of the negative consequences of catastrophic floods. The dams and dikes of reservoirs are intended to retain large volumes of water, and under normal reservoir operation-during periods of water accumulation and release-processes such as the accumulation of turbid flows within the reservoir basin and the absorption of coastal and dam-related waters occur. Natural events (floods, high-water periods, etc.), as well as extreme conditions associated with reservoir operation, have a significant negative impact on socio-economic infrastructure, the population, and ecosystems in catastrophic situations. Alternatively, there is a sharp increase in flow velocity due to the discharge of a large mass of water through the proran into the lower reaches due to the destruction of the reservoir dam (proran), and the relief of its own bottom with a complex geometry is forming, due to the processes of deformation of the macro- and meso-scale deformation processes. These deformations, in turn, raise issues related to determining and accounting for the volume of water resources stored in the reservoir. This article presents a hydraulic method for calculating the state of the reservoir basin relief under conditions of severe deformation.</jats:p>
