Abstract
<jats:p>Steve H. Hanke is Professor of Applied Economics at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. As an academic, he is known for his work on the economics of water, natural resources, privatization, currency boards, dollarization, finance, and other subjects. He has also been active as a trader, market commenter, and economic adviser to presidents and prime ministers. Mitchell List and Kurt Schuler ask him about his youth as an Iowa farm boy; his education at the University of Colorado; his academic career at Johns Hopkins; his contributions to economic thinking and economic policy; his experience as a trader, which began when he was a youngster; his thoughts on advising top policy makers; and his reflections on economics over the years. Caleb Hofmann also contributed to the interview, eliciting further material from Hanke.</jats:p>
