Foundations of Sustainable Development

<jats:p>Foundations of Sustainable Development: Concepts, Principles, Global Frameworks, and Bangladesh Perspectives is a university-level academic textbook that provides a systematic and accessible introduction to the theory, evolution, principles, challenges, and practical applications of sustainable development. The book begins by examining the meaning of development and its economic, human, social, and environmental dimensions before introducing sustainable development as an integrated approach to achieving long-term human well-being while protecting environmental resources and opportunities for future generations. The book explores the major characteristics and principles of sustainable development, including long-term thinking, equity, environmental protection, resource efficiency, economic prosperity, social inclusion, intergenerational and intragenerational equity, biodiversity conservation, the precautionary principle, the Polluter Pays Principle, and public participation. It also addresses major contemporary challenges such as population growth, climate change, poverty, food and energy security, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss. A significant feature of the book is its practical approach to sustainability. It demonstrates how sustainable development can be applied in households, universities, industry, agriculture, healthcare, business, and government.
