Lavender has grade A evidence supporting its role in GAD. Consider it as monotherapy or adjunctive treatment: 80–160 mg oil capsules daily, or 500–1500 mg standardized dried flower twice daily. Prescribe oral lavender, not aromatherapy, for sustained anxiolysis. Aromatherapy's anxiolytic effects appear mainly short-term. Kava at 120–240 mg kavalactones/day may help with short-term or situational anxiety, but it is not recommended for chronic, DSM-defined GAD.
