Abstract

Atypical depression showed reduced SSRI (OR 0.82) and SNRI (OR 0.79) response after BMI correction. MAO inhibitors and bupropion were not assessed in this study. Prior meta-analysis found MAO inhibitors superior to TCAs but equivalent to SSRIs. Circadian disruption may be a core feature of atypical depression. Most polygenic associations with psychiatric and metabolic traits disappeared after controlling for BMI. Only chronotype polygenic scores remained significant. Assess for seasonal patterns and circadian disruption in patients with atypical symptoms. Bright light therapy warrants further investigation in this subtype.
