Abstract
<jats:p>The Academic Language of Mathematics is an open educational resource designed to help students develop the language and communication skills needed to study mathematics through the medium of English. Rather than functioning as a traditional mathematics textbook, it places fundamental mathematical topics within their linguistic, symbolic and academic contexts, supporting students in reading, discussing and writing about mathematics with greater clarity and confidence. The book covers general mathematical terminology, differentiation, integration, sequences and series, complex numbers and functions, vectors and coordinate systems, lines and planes in three-dimensional space, and systems of equations and matrices. Each chapter progresses from technical vocabulary and notation to equations, diagrams, spoken interactions and extended academic texts. Interactive activities, audio and video recordings, model answers, pronunciation guidance and bilingual English–Chinese glossaries support both classroom teaching and independent study. Written for students studying mathematics within STEM degrees, particularly in English-medium instruction contexts, the book is also a practical resource for mathematics lecturers and English for Academic Purposes practitioners. By integrating mathematical understanding with disciplinary language development, it helps learners participate more effectively in academic mathematical communication and strengthens their confidence, independence and sense of belonging within the mathematical community.</jats:p>
