Abstract

<jats:p>The conduct of the trial within a reasonable time is part of the essence of the right to a fair trial, regulated in Article 6, paragraph 1 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. This study provides a brief overview of the principles, procedures and specific rules ensuring the speed of the proceedings, provided for in the Bulgarian and Serbian legislation. The legal means provided for the acceleration of the criminal trial in the procedural laws of the two countries are examined, while the institute of plea bargaining is analyzed.</jats:p>
