Translation in China at the Beginning of the 20th Century: Creative Interpretation and Cultural Mediation in the Dialogue With the West

<jats:p>The present article focuses on translation work in China at the end of the 20th century as a means of fostering new literary styles within the newly developed dialogue with the West. In the years following the end of the last imperial dynasty, the Qing, and the rise of the Republic of China, translation became a tool for introducing new ideas, genres, and literary techniques. Translation work plays a key role in the modernization of Chinese literature, as it drives the creation of new original texts inspired by Western works, with the slight difference that they are adapted to fit the Chinese narrative. The article examines translation as a dynamic process in which adaptation, creative interpretation, and cultural mediation are interwoven, giving rise to new literary waves in China.</jats:p>
