Abstract
<jats:p>The comparative analysis of the principles of operational art of the RF Armed Forces and the principles of Joint operations of the US Armed Forces demonstrates that they have been established on the basis of various doctrinal cultures of military art, military and historical experience, and modern-day operational and strategic priorities. Withal, every system, in addition to a number of convergences in ideology and content, holds a specific structure and accents, determined by differences in strategic approaches. In the operational art of the RF, prevailing are the principles of concentration of force, logistic support, regular command and control and provision of moral and psychological stability, which are anticipated for large-scale land operations, where stable command and system resource management are preemptive. The US operational principles (principles of Joint Operations) were established according to the requirements of joint, multi-national, and multi-domain environment, and were targeted not only at ensuring tactical success, but also at the effective adherence to international legitimacy and achievement of political objectives. It is noteworthy, that a number of principles, secured in the US document, come short in the system of the Russian operational art as particular provisions. Meanwhile, the Russian principles hold such components, which in case of the US are employed not as independent principles, but rather as auxiliary concepts. The aftermaths of the analysis suggest that the US principles have more highlighted strategic and political focus, while the RF principles are practical guidelines, more geared towards the operational level. This very distinction stems from the peculiarities in the military and political environment, basic strategic, and military and political goals of military actions, and corresponding systems of command and control in those two states.</jats:p>
