Abstract

The paper proposes and applies a five-dimensional framework for assessing the quality of agricultural growth: intensity, stability, inclusiveness, resource efficiency and technological renewal. The analysis is conducted at two levels – 121–115 districts of Uzbekistan over 2015–2024 and five Central Asian countries. Growth in Uzbekistan is found to be fully intensive and the most stable in the region, while its inclusiveness is low. Cotton yields display rapid cross-district convergence (half-life 4.4 years), whereas wheat convergence is very slow (33.8 years). Yield volatility remains high, averaging 13.4 % for wheat and 19.4 % for cotton, and is negatively associated with the wheat growth trend.
