SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF HETEROCYCLIC COMPOUNDS FOR BIOLOGICAL AND ENERGY APPLICATIONS

<jats:p>Heterocyclic compounds represent a vital class of organic molecules characterized by the presence of heteroatoms such as nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur within cyclic structures. These compounds exhibit remarkable chemical and biological properties, making them indispensable in pharmaceutical and energy-related applications. This chapter focuses on the synthesis and characterization of various heterocyclic compounds using conventional and advanced synthetic methodologies. Detailed discussions are presented on their structural elucidation through spectroscopic and analytical techniques such as NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, the biological significance of heterocyclic compounds is highlighted through their antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities, supported by recent research findings. In addition to biomedical applications, the role of heterocyclic compounds in energy storage systems, particularly in supercapacitors, is explored. Functionalization of graphene and reduced graphene oxide with heterocyclic molecules has been shown to enhance electrochemical performance, including improved capacitance, energy density, and cyclic stability. Overall, this chapter provides comprehensive insights into the design, synthesis, characterization, and multifunctional applications of heterocyclic compounds in modern science and technology.</jats:p>
