Abstract

Dr. Pradip Kumar Sarkar, BPT (CU), MPT (Cardio-Pulmonary: MMU), MA (Publ Admn: PU), PhD, Chief Physiotherapist & In-Charge, Physiotherapy, PGIMER, Chandigarh In my 31 years of extensive experience in the fields of Cardiopulmonary, Child & Women‟s health, Pain management, and Community-Based Rehabilitation, I have found that Neurology is interconnected everywhere, and that is natural. I believe in one concept of life, which is “life moves incidentally rather than accidentally.” Recently, I incidentally met one of the authors and the editor of this book at a conference, and I have seen her immense interest in academic and clinical aspects of the physiotherapy profession, especially in neurology. Advancements in neuroimaging, molecular biology, and clinical research are profoundly redefining the field of neurological rehabilitation. Neurophysiotherapy stands at the heart of this evolution, shifting our focus from merely teaching patients to compensate for deficits to actively leveraging the remarkable power of neuroplasticity to remodel the nervous system. The role of the neurophysiotherapist is pivotal and vast, impacting the acute and long-term management of conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson‟s disease, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injuries. This textbook arrives at a critical juncture, effectively bridging conventional management with modern, high-technology systems- a necessary evolution given our profession's increasing engagement with Telemedicine and robotics. It serves as an essential, meticulously structured resource, connecting complex neuroscientific theories with practical, evidence-based clinical application for clinicians, educators, and students. The book‟s distinct value lies in its holistic and futuristic approach, emphasizing ● Understanding underlying pathophysiology to tailor highly specific interventions, ● Integrating the Disability, and Health to focus on a patient's real-world participation, ● Incorporating emerging tools- from robotics and virtual reality to wearable sensors- into conventional therapy, Every chapter reflects deep clinical interpretation and a rigorous commitment to evidence-based practice, providing the fundamental why behind successful intervention. This text is a foundational stepping stone for students and a vital resource for seasoned clinicians seeking to challenge existing paradigms and inspire innovative approaches to complex cases. I congratulate the authors on producing this definitive and inspiring work and strongly recommend this text to anyone dedicated to restoring movement, optimizing function, and renewing hope within the physiotherapy profession.
