Abstract

In recent decades, minimally invasive surgical techniques have become the gold standard in colorectal surgery. Within this context, robotic resections have emerged as an option, depending on the surgeon’s expertise, available resources, and the complexity of the case. To address some of the limitations of the laparoscopic approach, particularly in narrow pelvic spaces or inflammatory conditions, the robotic approach is gaining increasing popularity. Robotic techniques, offering three-dimensional vision, a stable camera platform, and flexible robotic arms, can enhance surgical precision and improve overall quality. These advantages help overcome ergonomic challenges inherent in minimally invasive surgery, enabling surgeons to perform high-quality, precise dissections along tissue planes. This chapter aims to explore the state of the art in robotic colorectal surgery for both malignant and benign conditions. It will provide technical tips and tricks for major procedures with the da Vinci Xi platform, as well as a comprehensive review of the current literature.
