Gesellschaft und Krise

<p>While some in the academic community criticize the longing for pre-modern communities as illusory and politically risky, the question of the fundamental vulnerability of modernized societies to crisis has so far remained inadequately addressed. Drawing on Jürgen Habermas, Alexander Strupp’s 'Gesellschaft und Krise' (Society and Crisis) develops an understanding of the general conditions for successful human coexistence in order to measure modern societies against this standard and to discuss law and democracy as social stabilizers. In the afterword, Isabella Lazar examines digitalization as a particularly explosive factor today that poses new challenges for democratic discourse and the maintenance of social peace.</p>
