Abstract

The aim of this special issue is to deepen understanding of the openness of the constitutional systems in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein to European Union law. The articles discuss both national parallels and differences in the understanding of openness to European law. In doing so, they provide new insights into the significance of this constitutional principle, which is more than merely the constitutional counterpart to the EU law requirement of loyalty. A comprehensively understood openness to European law aims to ensure that all state bodies utilise their constitutional scope to promote the goal of European integration in interaction with EU law.
