Abstract

The book offers valuable insights into dealing with legal issues in digital culture. Social media, as central hubs of social communication, resemble “digital image worlds” through everyday photos, news images, short videos, and other forms of visual expression. Findings from sociology and media studies are used to examine the effects of this new visual communication. On this basis, proposals are developed to answer legal questions—from data protection to influencers to deepfakes. The work is aimed at academia, legal practitioners, and anyone who wants to better understand digital culture. The author conducts research at the intersection of law, media, and cultural theory.
