Abstract

With the help of artificial intelligence, digital content such as images, videos, and audio recordings can now be manipulated more easily than ever before. These so-called deepfakes and their impact on German criminal law are the subject of this thesis. Is criminal law sufficiently prepared for these new types of fakes, or is there a need for reform? To this end, all relevant provisions of the German Criminal Code and secondary criminal law are examined. In addition, the procedural challenges that the judiciary will face in the coming years in view of the increasing number and increasingly realistic appearance of media forgeries are also examined.
