Abstract

Hegel's unconventional approach to logical contradiction is well known. Its constructive function in the method discovered by Hegel, also known as " determined negation", has scarcely been examined to date. The work shows the logical structure of both and their prominent position in Hegel's systematic philosophy. For this purpose, the section on what Hegel calls the " Essentialities or Determinations of Reflection" in the Logic of Essence, the systematic place of the self-explication of contradiction, will be subjected to a precise analysis, showing how Hegel neutralizes the destructive danger of contradiction for his scientific system and even takes contradiction into service for its logical progress. Examples will be used to show that and how Hegel's arguments can only be understood with a precise understanding of the Hegelian concept of contradiction.
