Abstract

Introduction.According to numerous multicenter studies, 30–40% of the world’spopulation has vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency. Vitamin D insufficiency is defined as a 25(OH)Dlevel of <30 ng/m L (75 nmol/L). It is common in healthy individuals, especially in northern regions, as well as in older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with obesity or limited exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D deficiency is characterized by a 25(OH)D <20 ng/ml (50 nmol/l), often accompanied by hypocalcemia of varying severity, impaired bone mineralization, and various systemic consequences. In Russia, levels of 25(OH)D below 30 ng/ml are detected in 70% of the adult population, with some studies noting seasonal differences. Issues concerning the effect of vitamin D deficiency on calcium-phosphorus metabolism and the condition of the musculoskeletal system are known and widely covered in the literature. To a much lesser extent, the literature presents studies on the effect of vitamin D deficiency on other organs and systems, particularly the cardiovascular system. This article presents the results of our own study, which shows the effect of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency on the development of cardiovascular and endocrine pathology in middle-aged men.The purpose of this articleis to study the effects of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency on the development of pathology of the cardiovascular and endocrine systems in middle-aged men.Materials and methods. The article presents the results of a study conducted in various medical institutions in St. Petersburg, which examined the impact of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency on the development of arterial hypertension, heart failure, hypercoagulation, androgen deficiency, and carbohydrate metabolism disorders in patients with vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency. The resultsof the study demonstrated a correlation between vitamin D deficiency and the development of cardiovascular pathology in middle-aged men.Conclusion.Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a higher frequency of cardiovascular and endocrine system disorders. Unlike vitamin D deficiency, vitamin D insufficiency is not accompanied by pathological consequences in most cases.
