<jats:p>The childhood and youth of the renowned architect and scholar Koryun Ghafadaryan were spent in the wondrous atmosphere of archaeological excavations, unique discoveries, and daily museum life. Being the son of Karo Ghafadaryan—a prominent Armenian historian and archaeologist who led the History Museum of Armenia for many years—he absorbed a deep love for ancient heritage from an early age. This predefined his life path: his fascination with the mysteries of artistic creation led him to choose the profession of an architect, a field intimately connected to his father’s lifelong work. Koryun Ghafadaryan dedicated himself entirely to the research, presentation, and preservation of the architectural and cultural monuments of ancient and medieval Armenia. He not only studied the urban planning foundations of ancient settlements but also personally participated in excavations, carried out architectural measurements, created blueprints, and photographed sites, introducing numerous monuments into scientific circulation for the first time. Key Scientific Works of K. Ghafadaryan: • Monograph: "The Architecture of the City of Argishtikhinili" — A fundamental study dedicated to the urban planning structure, building types, and architectural profile of the Urartian city. This work represents a major contribution to both national and international Urartology. • Article: "The Architecture of the Armenian Highlands during the Primitive Communal System and the First State Formations" (co-authored with G. Areshyan). In The History of Armenian Architecture. It traces the evolution of construction activities in the Armenian Highlands, presenting vital conclusions on the prehistoric inhabitants' first attempts to create a man-made living environment, the synthesis of arts, and the origin of aesthetic aspirations. K. Ghafadaryan’s scientific inquiries and his conclusions regarding the continuity of architectural traditions are fundamentally important for studying the evolution of Armenian architecture in subsequent periods.
