Abstract

“Partoon” (dance house) was an integral part of the Shirakian wedding tradition, remaining active until the 1988 earthquake. The “partoon” (Akhuryan, Ashotsk) or “tsaghkatun” (flower house) (Artik) was a distinctive setting where elements of folk lyrical folklore, such as khaghiks or manis often referred to as “round dance songs” were both created and flourished simultaneously. These plays accompanied by round dances are small-scale lyrical works, invented under the direct influence of various mental states and diverse social phenomena. These songs were often composed for a single performance, but successful examples were preserved and passed down through generations.
