<jats:p>Ballroom dances, being a European urban, or rather metropolitan phenomenon, became accessible to Armenians from the late 18th century, first in India, and then in Russian and the Ottoman Empires. With the development and gradual Europeanization of urban culture in Tiflis and Constantinople, certain segments of the Armenian communities in these cities began to engage with the ballroom culture and ballroom dance schools. Articles and announcements about dance were published in the press, and ballroom dances started to be mentioned in Armenian literature as well.</jats:p>
