Abstract
The issue of the status of the Lori speech has had different interpretations. Eventually, an opinion emerged that it could be considered both an independent dialect, distinct from Ararat, and one of the variants of Ararat. In order to have additional information on the relationship between the Lori speech and the Ararat dialect, the work examined about a dozen variants of the Lori speech, comparing them with a number of speeches of the Ararat dialect. It was found that within the framework of the observed variants of dialectal Armenian, the manifestations of Lori speech differ from those of the Ararat dialect by at least 24.5 points, which means that Lori speech can be considered a separate dialect from Ararat.
