<jats:p>The aim of this study is to investigate the role of subclinical atrial fibrillation (AF) in the development of cardioembolic stroke. This 6-month study included 100 patients aged ≥65 years. All patients underwent echocardiography, Holter monitoring, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain. The participants were divided into two groups:  Group 1: 50 patients with subclinical atrial fibrillation.  Group 2: 50 patients with permanent atrial fibrillation. All patients with the permanent form of AF were receiving anticoagulant therapy. Although many studies identify permanent AF as the primary risk factor for cardioembolic stroke, our findings indicate that the subclinical form of AF is also associated with a high risk of cardioembolic stroke.</jats:p>
