Գյումրու սոցիալ-մշակութային վերակազմավորումը հետտրավմատիկ իրականության համատեքստում

<jats:p>Following the 1988 Spitak earthquake, Gyumri emerged as a unique socio-cultural space shaped by post-traumatic memory, loss, and ongoing reconstruction. The aim of this article is to analyze the phenomenon of Gyumri several decades after the disaster as a process of trauma, cultural memory, and identity reconstruction. The study is based on a qualitative analysis of ethnographic field materials collected in Gyumri and surrounding settlements during 1988–1993 and 2022–2024. The materials include oral narratives, testimonies of memory, satirical stories, descriptions of bodily sensations, and dream narratives. The data were interpreted within the theoretical frameworks of cultural memory, trauma studies, and urban identity. Particular attention was paid to the symbolic structure of narratives, urban regimes of memory, and the cultural reinterpretation of traumatic experience. The findings demonstrate that Gyumri’s “unfinishedness” cannot be reduced to the consequences of incomplete physical reconstruction. Rather, it functions as a socio-psychological and cultural condition in which past trauma continues to shape urban identity, collective memory, and community relations. At the same time, urban memory becomes a source of creativity, humor, storytelling, and cultural resilience. Gyumri appears as a living memorial space where trauma and creativity jointly constitute the socio-cultural dynamics of post-traumatic reality.</jats:p>
