Abstract
Music had occupied a significant place in the Armenian culture of Baku. Prior to the 19th century, three main branches of traditional Armenian music developed here: folk, gusan-ashugh (troubadour), and spiritual-ecclesiastical. At the end of the 19th century, European composition and performance arts began to take shape, followed by their active development at the beginning of the 20th century. Valuable sources related to the Armenians of Baku were examined using historical-comparative and textual analysis methods. Numerous archival written materials, playbills (posters), and photographs were studied. As one of the prominent centers of Armenian culture, Baku attracted not only talented musicians from Artsakh and Shamakhi, but also renowned figures from various Armenian diaspora communities and prominent cultural hubs. The ultimate significance lies in the fact that their activities not only made a major contribution to the city's multinational musical culture, but also served as a vital component of the Armenian population's identity.
