Abstract

During the period 2001–2025, the Shirak region has continued to experience a decline in population, although the rate of decrease has slowed considerably compared to the preceding period. Whereas between 1987 and 2001 the population of the region declined by approximately 29.6%, during 2001–2025 the reduction amounted to 14,5%. Over the same period, the population of the Republic of Armenia decreased by 4.3%. Despite the relative socio-economic stabilization observed since the early 2000s, the Shirak region remains one of the most socio-economically vulnerable regions in the Republic, characterized by persistently high unemployment, ongoing out-migration, and declining indicators of natural population growth.
