Abstract

The subject of our study is the poetry collection “Ayla-grutyun” (“Alter-writing”) (2000) by a contemporary poet, Davit Mshetsi. The aim of the paper is to value the collection scientifically by highlighting its relevance. Methods and materials: We have been guided by the methods of analytical value-based analysis and hermeneutics. We paid attention to the symbolic imagery and the ways in which the author conveyed his message in the book. Analysis: In the book “Ayla-grutyun” (“Alter-writing”) Mshetsi encodes his message, using original imaging methods and techniques, expressing his civic position, emotional intensity, and the impulse of his heart. The book with the unusual title suggests a different kind of writing, which the author has presented through original methods and forms of artistic imagery. In the mentioned poetry we have used unique symbols. The colour combinations are of interest: red, yellow, black, etc. Mshetsi has skillfully used the poetics of colour. In Mshetsi's poetics, the depiction of trees also takes on a unique symbolic meaning. The centuries-old Armenian culture is represented by the example of a thick-trunked oak tree that fights for the sake of the bushes. The poet believes in the ability of a broken tree to branch out and bear fruit again if the roots are kept strong. The calamities that befell the nation are represented through the symbol of winter//death, the opposite of which is life//resurrection. Results: The collection is a solid unity of form and content, and the author has managed to convey his message to the readers in the most effective way.
