Abstract
<jats:p>This article assesses the current ecological state of the soil and vegetation of the «Northern Kharasan» deposit, the Kharasan-2 site and its southeastern slope using ecological and biogeochemical assessment criteria for the soil and vegetation of the studied area. During the study, the mechanical composition, moisture, salinity, pH, humus content, composition of organic and mineral elements of the soil of the region, as well as the biogeochemical features of the vegetation were determined. The level of impact of uranium mining and natural geochemical processes on the composition of the soil and vegetation was considered. The results of the study showed that the soil cover is subject to degradation in the area, which accounts for approximately 5.2% of the total geological division area. The nature and direction of vegetation transformation during exploration work at the study points depends on the ecological and edaphic conditions of the community habitat, their natural resistance, the survival status and morphological structure of the species that make up the communities, as well as the level of anthropogenic disturbance. At each stage of exploration and mining, plants are exposed to various anthropogenic influences. In areas where soil layers have been disturbed, weed vegetation has increased, leading to the formation and restoration of the disturbed upper horizon. After mining operations are completed, it is important to develop methods for soil restoration, including soil restoration, phytoremediation, and soil structure improvement. Also, studying how biological processes (plants, microorganisms) affect the transport and transformation of elements in the soil allows developing biomonitoring and restoration strategies. The results of the study can be used as a scientific basis for assessing the level of natural and man-made pollution, conducting environmental monitoring, and predicting the impact of uranium mining areas on the environment.</jats:p>
