Abstract
<jats:p>This article examines the emergence of legal hermeneutics, its role in legal methodology, and the stages of its historical development. Hugo Grotius’s views on the interpretation of legal texts, his influence on the further development of hermeneutics, and his significance in modern legal theory are highlighted based on scientific sources. The article provides a conceptual analysis of the concepts of hermeneutics, legal hermeneutics, and legal interpretation. The necessity of interpreting legal norms based on modern requirements and the methodological tasks of hermeneutics in law enforcement practice are also revealed. The article provides a step-by-step analysis of the significance of legal hermeneutics as a method based on the principle of historicity. The theoretical analysis presented in the study can be used in research work within the framework of the specialty of the theory and history of state and law, the history of legal doctrines.</jats:p>
