<jats:p>This article examines the theoretical and legal foundations of land acquisition for public needs, as well as the constitutional and civil law nature of this legal institution and international experience in its regulation. The study analyzes the theory of public interest and the theory of economic efficiency and reviews the legislation and law enforcement practices of the United States, Germany, France, Italy, and Austria. The author highlights the significance of the principle of fair compensation in land acquisition for public needs and proposes measures aimed at improving the civil legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In particular, the article substantiates the need to introduce special provisions into the Civil Code regulating land acquisition for public needs and the termination of rights to land plots.</jats:p>
