Abstract
“Is It All Just Construction? On the Epistemology of the History of Science” by Herbert Mehrtens (German language)
Herbert Mehrtens develops an epistemology of the history of science beyond naïve realism and misconstrued constructivism. Scientific knowledge is constructed through concepts, theories, experiments, instruments, and discourse, yet it remains constrained by sources, things, and processes. The essay argues for a realistic constructivism that historicizes truth without dissolving scientific knowledge into arbitrariness.
