Abstract

Themain objective of this project is to increase coefficient of performance (COP) of the Vapor Compression Refrigeration system (VCR). The COP can be increased by reducing compressor work and by increasing refrigeration effect. Compressor work can be reduced by using diffuser at the outlet of the compressor for same refrigeration effect. The refrigeration effect can be increased by sub cooling the refrigerant coming out from the condenser. Sub cooling can be achieved by various methods. The purpose of a compressor in vapor compression system is to elevate the pressure of the refrigerant, but refrigerant leaves the compressor with comparatively high velocity which may cause splashing of liquid refrigerant in the condenser, liquid hump and damage the condenser by erosion. A device that can convert this kinetic energy to pressure energy will definitely save compressor work. A diffuser is obviously a best choice. In this work both the strategies are being adopted that is introducing a diffuser at the compressor outlet to reduce the work of compression and by incorporating a heat exchanger at the outlet of condenser to increase the refrigerating effect by sub cooling the refrigerant. Heat exchanger is a passive device for operating heat exchanger no need of power, with effect of sub cooling refrigerating effect is increases and as result of both diffuser and sub-cooling COP of VCR system is found to be increased
