Abstract

Most of what has been written about multilingual people who use English in countries that Britain or America had once made their territories is about those who are better off. Linguists, that is, scientists studying languages, have very often described what the elites of the countries do. Unfortunately, less well-off people in the communities have often been neglected when linguists have written about English in these nations. This book celebrates the voices of those people that are missing from the works of many linguists. It aims to tell some of their stories as well as to describe what generally makes English in their countries special and how these people learn and use English.
