Annotating Explicative Metaphors: An Annotation Guideline for Qur'anic Lead Metaphors and Explicative Metaphors in Exegetical Texts (Tafsir)

<jats:p>This article presents the annotation guidelines for subproject A01 of the CRC 1475 'Metaphors of Religion.' The guidelines describe procedures for annotating Qur'anic lead metaphors and explicative metaphors in Tafsir and other Qur'an-related texts. The paper provides a detailed example of the 'straight and solid road' metaphor, working through all the annotation steps. Our approach combines conceptual metaphor theory (CMT) with transtextual analysis to capture how religious meaning develops through networks of interlocking metaphors. Alongside the annotation procedure, the document also introduces the key concepts, digital tools and reference resources employed in the project.</jats:p>
