Abstract

The main subject of the book is the gesture and its place within the scope of verbal and visual means of communication; its place equal with theirs. The author proves that the gesture not only strengthens the verbal medium and, among others, its persuasiveness, but also constitutes a fully valid means of communication which ‘contributes to the semantics of the communicative interaction’ [review by Michał Rusinek]. The book in an academic manner debunks many myths concerning non-verbal communication, at the same time making use of the most recent research in interpersonal communication to prove that gestures and words form an inextricable bond in the process of communication between people.
