Abstract

<jats:p>This chapter examines the role of sports in promoting the social inclusion of inmates through theoretical, psychological, and policy perspectives. It outlines the foundations of social inclusion and rehabilitation, drawing on delinquency theories to explain the rehabilitative potential of structured activities. The dynamics of social exclusion in prison are discussed, highlighting barriers to reintegration. The chapter emphasizes the psychological and behavioral effects of sports, including improved mental health, self-discipline, and reduced violence. It also explores how sports enhance communication, teamwork, and identity transformation, supporting desistance from crime. Finally, the role of sports programs in post-release adaptation, education, and employment is addressed, presenting sports as a tool for rehabilitation and social reintegration.</jats:p>
