Abstract
<jats:p>Digital pollution refers to the energy consumption and environmental impacts caused by the excessive and unnecessary use of digital devices. Its sources include unnecessary data storage, high-resolution content, spam emails, messages, and unused applications. These practices increase energy consumption in digital devices and infrastructure. Since this energy is largely derived from fossil fuels, it leads to carbon emissions and an increased carbon footprint. Reducing the environmental impact of digital pollution is possible through awareness and conscious behavior. This study aimed to determine teacher candidates' awareness of digital pollution. Data were collected from 256 teacher candidates using a 10-item “Digital Pollution Knowledge Survey” developed by the researchers. The data were analyzed using the Descriptive Survey Model. Results showed that teacher candidates have a low level of awareness regarding digital pollution. The study contributes to the field by identifying awareness levels and offering practical suggestions to enhance them.</jats:p>
