Abstract
This chapter examines how artificial intelligence is reshaping project management by enabling a transition from reactive, retrospective control mechanisms to predictive, intelligence-driven decision support. The chapter explores the application of machine learning, predictive analytics, and large language models across key project management functions, including planning, risk management, performance measurement, and governance. It demonstrates how AI-enhanced approaches extend traditional techniques such as Earned Value Management through continuous forecasting, early risk detection, anomaly identification, and scenario-based decision support. Emphasis is placed on human–AI collaboration, highlighting the importance of explainable and human-in-the-loop systems in maintaining managerial judgment, accountability, and trust.
