Abstract
<jats:p>Tüm bir kuşağın portresi çizilebilir mi? Yoksa her kuşak milyonlarca yüz, milyonlarca ses midir? sorusuna yanıt arayan Zamanın Ruhu Ekseninde Kuşaklar, Karl Mannheim’ın kuşak kuramını, Zeitgeist (zamanın ruhu) kavramını ve toplumsal değişimin uzun erimli dinamiklerini merkeze alan disiplinlerarası bir çalışmadır. Kitabı özgün kılan, geçmişten günümüze seyreden kuşakları yalnızca ardışık yaş grupları olarak değil, kendi tarihsel bağlamlarının ekonomik, politik, kültürel ve toplumsal koşullarında şekillenen kolektif yapılar olarak ABD-Türkiye karşılaştırması ile ele almasıdır.Kuşaklar arası ilişkilerin günümüz örgütleri ve iş dünyası üzerindeki etkilerine de odaklanan eser, değişen motivasyon, aidiyet ve çalışma biçimlerini anlamak için kuşaksal heterojenliği dikkate alan çoğulcu yaklaşımların gerekliliğine dikkat çekmektedir. Kitabın sonunda kuşaklar üzerinden zamanın ruhunu okumanın yalnızca bugünün çatışma ve kırılmalarını anlamakla kalmayıp aynı zamanda toplumsal barışın, demokratik çoğulculuğun ve birlikte yaşama kültürünün gelecekte hangi zeminler üzerinde yeniden inşa edileceğini öngörmeyi de olanaklı kılacağı ifade edilmektedir.Geleceğe yönelik projeksiyonda yeni Zeitgeist’ın yâni otarşik eğilimlerin yükselişinin, küreselleşme sonrası dünyanın yeni normlarını tartışmaya açtığı ve insanlık için “birlikte yaşama”nın sınırlarını yeniden çizdiği belirtilmektedir. Bu durumun özellikle genç kuşakların geleceğe dair umutlarını, beklentilerini ve kimlik inşa süreçlerini doğrudan etkilediğine dikkat çekilmektedir.Kitabı deneyimsel kılan unsur, her bölümün sonunda yer alan interaktif görevler ile “Zamanın Ruhuyla Yüzleşme” ve “Tanıklığın Yüküyle” başlıkları altında sunulan sorgulayıcı sorulardır. Böylelikle okuyucu kuşaklarla sohbet etmeye, düşünmeye, tartışmaya ve kendi yanıtlarını aramaya davet edilmektedir. Çünkü zamanın ruhu değişirken kuşaklar bu dönüşümün yalnızca tanıkları değil, aynı zamanda taşıyıcılarıdır. Can the portrait of an entire generation truly be drawn, or is each generation composed of millions of faces and millions of voices? Seeking to address this question, Generations in the Axis of the Zeitgeist is an interdisciplinary study that centers on Karl Mannheim’s theory of generations, the concept of Zeitgeist (the spirit of the time) and the long-term dynamics of social change. The originality of the book lies in its interpretation of generations not merely as sequential age cohorts, but as collective formations shaped by the economic, political, cultural and social conditions of their historical contexts. In this respect, the book offers a comparative perspective between the United States and Türkiye.The study also examines the implications of generational relations for contemporary organizations and the world of work. It highlights the necessity of pluralistic approaches that acknowledge generational heterogeneity in order to understand changing forms of motivation, belonging and work practices. In its concluding reflections, the book suggests that reading the spirit of the time through generations not only helps us interpret present conflicts and ruptures, but may also provide insight into the conditions under which social peace, democratic pluralism and a culture of coexistence might be re-established in the future.In projecting possible future trajectories, the book further argues that a new Zeitgeist -marked by the rise of autarchic tendencies- opens a debate about the emerging norms of the post-globalization world and redraws the boundaries of “living together.” This transformation is likely to shape the hopes, expectations and processes of identity formation particularly among younger generations.What makes the book experiential is the inclusion of interactive tasks at the end of each chapter, together with reflective questions presented under the sections “Confronting the Spirit of the Time” and “With the Burden of Witnessing”. Through these elements, readers are invited to move beyond passive reading and engage actively with generations, thinking, questioning, discussing and searching for their own answers. Because as the spirit of the time changes, generations become not only witnesses to this transformation but also its bearers.</jats:p>
