Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive study of the global experience in ensuring sustainable tourism development in protected natural areas and outlines the possibilities of its implementation within the Ukrainian context. Modern approaches applied in the management of national parks, biosphere reserves, and other protected natural areas in the European Union, North and South America, as well as in developing countries, are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the recommendations of the IUCN, UNWTO, the Natura 2000 program, and practices of regenerative tourism aimed at minimizing human impact, restoring ecosystems, and ensuring the socio-economic resilience of local communities. Based on the conducted analysis, the key features of sustainable tourism development in protected areas are identified, including prioritizing environmental protection, maintaining ecological balance, limiting tourist pressure, using educational tools, integrated management, and involving local communities in the formation of tourism products. The study summarizes the contributions of contemporary Ukrainian and international scholars to the issues of sustainable tourism development; however, several important aspects remain insufficiently explored. Among them are the adaptation of international sustainable management models to national conditions, improving mechanisms for assessing the ecological capacity of territories, developing an effective system for monitoring tourism impacts, strengthening partnerships between protected area administrations, communities, and businesses, and introducing economic instruments to support conservation efforts. It is substantiated that integrating global experience can significantly enhance the potential of Ukrainian protected areas, facilitate their recovery in the post-war period, improve the competitiveness of tourist destinations, and ensure the long-term preservation of the country’s natural heritage. The results of the study have practical value for governmental bodies, national park management, local self-government authorities, and tourism enterprises operating in the field of conservation-oriented tourism.
