Global transformation of the ukrainian media environment: structural, genre-based, and cognitive dimensions

<jats:p>The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the transformation of the Ukrainian media landscape amid the full-scale invasion. It examines key trends in the development of contemporary journalism shaped by wartime, technological, and social factors. Drawing on data from the Institute of Mass Information (IMI), media consumption studies, reports of international analytical organizations, as well as theoretical approaches in cognitive psychology and media communication, the study analyzes structural changes in the Ukrainian media market, the acceleration of digitalization, the growing role of social media and messaging platforms, the reorientation of audiences toward rapid information consumption, the dominance of news content, and the transformation of the journalistic genre system. The study argues that wartime conditions have intensified existing global trends in digital communication, resulting in an unprecedented increase in the speed of information dissemination, a growing demand for mobile-friendly content formats, the emergence of new microgenres, concise news formats, and emotionally oriented models of content presentation. Particular attention is paid to the adaptation of newsrooms to operating under constant information threats, intense competition for audience attention, and the need for continuous, real-time content production. The article also examines changes in journalists’ professional practices, the transformation of editorial workflows, the growing role of rewriting as a key mechanism for rapid news production, and the modification of the linguistic and stylistic characteristics of journalistic texts. Furthermore, it analyzes the impact of digital platforms, algorithm-driven information environments, and generative artificial intelligence on journalistic writing standards, editorial practices, and the professional competencies required of modern journalists. The study concludes that the contemporary Ukrainian media landscape is shaped by the complex interplay among wartime challenges, digital transformation, and evolving audience information behavior, thereby defining new directions for the development of journalism and media communications.
