Theoretical justification of the essence of strategic behavior of an enterprise

<jats:p>The article examines the theoretical foundations of the formation of an enterprise’s strategic behavior in the context of the evolution of scientific approaches to strategic management. The relevance of the study is justified by increased uncertainty, turbulence in the external environment, the acceleration of technological and institutional change, and the intensification of crisis and shock effects, which are especially evident during wartime and post-war recovery in Ukraine. The main stages of the strategic management development from classical planning and competitive and positional approaches to resource, behavioral, emergent, evolutionary, adaptive approaches, ecosystem approaches, concepts of dynamic capabilities, resilience, ambidexterity, and digital transformation are systematized. It is established that the development of strategic science is characterized by a gradual shift in emphasis from strategy as a predetermined long-term plan to strategy as a dynamic process of learning, adaptation, and transformation for an enterprise. On this basis, an author’s behavioral-adaptive transformational approach to strategic management is proposed, which integrates the provisions of the behavioral theory of the enterprise, adaptive and emergent approaches, and the concepts of dynamic capabilities, organizational resilience, strategic flexibility, and organizational ambidexterity. It is justified that, under high uncertainty, the enterprise’s strategic behavior becomes the key link in strategic management. It is suggested that it be interpreted as a dynamic pattern of strategically significant decisions, reactions, and actions formed through interaction with the external environment, aimed at preserving viability, adapting, reconfiguring resources and competencies, and achieving an enterprise’s long-term goals. Prospects for further research lie in deepening the categorical apparatus for understanding an enterprise’s strategic behavior in wartime and post-war periods.
